Mr. Aljon C. Tomeldan, Cum Laude of Pangasinan State University – Urdaneta Campus, with a course of BS Mathematics Major in Statistics has shared a story of his success in graduating with Latin honors.

Tomeldan never expected to graduate with Latin honors until the last semester, though he knew that he had a chance, he was more focused on his goal to finish his studies. It was a surprise when he found out that he will graduate as their batch’s salutatorian.

Finding out that he has Latin honor, he felt happy when he knew that all his hardships and efforts in studying has paid off. It was indeed a huge blessing for Tomeldan as he sees this honor as his diligence and discipline during his studies.

According to him, the key to his success is the quality teaching of instructors and the righteous discipline in studying. He stated that students should not deceive their selves. Individual students must study during the times they should study.

Despite about to graduate salutatorian, Tomeldan also faced and experienced great struggles as a student. However, he didn’t see it as his weakness; rather, he made it his motivation to continue meeting his goal.

Tomeldan stated to focus more on the knowledge than recognition of others; Make sure to be better than the old self “BREAK YOUR OWN RECORD”; If something is learned, teach others; if something is not known, ask the instructor; and sacrifice time. These are some of the advices Tomeldan has shared for students who would also like to graduate with Latin honors.
The last person to graduate Cum Laude in PSU-UC is Engr. Mark Jefferson Castro, who now serves as an instructor in the campus.
