There is more to come, even the bests yet for Pangasinan State University this year 2020, Dr. Dexter R. Buted said in his speech last January 7 before PSUnians during the inking of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Hainan Tropical Ocean University, China as he flaunted his administration’s achievements in the previous years from when he took presidency.
Dr. Buted attributed the institution’s feats in the past few years, such as the ISO 9001:2015 certification and recertification by AJA Registrars, to how he invested in Quality Assurance (QA) mechanisms wisely.
As Dr. Celeste Mercado, Director for PRPIO puts it, “Everything that President Buted touches turns gold.” PSU is once again assured this year and in the coming years that same performance level and even higher and doubled will come ahead of every PSUnian.
Among significant achievements in the past few years under Dr. Buted’s administration highlighted are:
-Renovated and new buildings in all of the nine campuses
-Increased number of programs accredited and QA mechanisms such as ISO, ISA, IA, IIP, PQA, etc.
-Implementation of Free LET Review to education graduates paving way to more topnotchers and passers (Levelled up board examination performance)
-Faculty and Staff Development through Graduate Studies (Doctorate and Masterate) pursuit
-Significant increase of the University Budget (increased number of income generating projects)
-Funded workshops and trainings to faculty members and staff
-Strengthened Research Culture in the university
-Student Development Programs
-Creation of another Vice Presidency: VPPQA (Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance)
The administrators under Dr. Buted, on top of them are the five Vice Presidents support him in any way they can for the university’s growth as well. From the beginning of the year, these five vice presidents build bridges on how they can further maximize their jurisdiction for amelioration of university services.
Office of the Vice President for Administration
VPAd, Dr. Marcelo Gutierrez administered for the whole month of January the selection of qualified applicants to own the 156 Instructor 1 items. He also made certain the availability of the new offices namely the Public Relations, Publication and Information Office (PRPIO) and Guidance and Admission Office for the beginning of the new year. “Bigger and better office would mean amplified work services,” said Dr. Gutierrez as a warm welcome to the occupants.
Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Manolito Manuel, VPPAA, convened all his directorates (Directors of Curriculum, Instruction and Accreditation (CIA), Students and Alumni Affairs Office, NSTP, Physical Education and Sports Development Office, Culture and Arts Affairs Office, ETEEAp, Sentro ng Wikang Filipino, Technical/Vocational Programs, Center for Foreign Languages, Practice Teaching and Review Center, Admission and Guidance Services, Medical and Dental Services, Library Services, University Registrar, and K-12 Focal Person) at the Accreditation Room Dr. Victoriano Estira Building on January 14 to discuss priority projects of each unit for 2020. It includes the upcoming ISO recertification, program accreditation scheduled in March, and IPCR/OPCR to keep up with the university’s quality Instruction. The meeting also addressed problems and specific concerns of each unit which required immediate action.
Office of the Vice President for Planning and Quality Assurance
Dr. Ruby Rosa V. Cruz, VPPQA, who is joined by Mr. Elbert Galas, Director for Quality Assurance and Ms. Weenalei Fajardo, Internal Quality Auditor facilitated Quality Management System (QMS) visits all over the campuses on January 24, 28, 29 and 30 in preparation for the upcoming ISO Recertification Visit from February 4-7, 2020.
Prior to the QMS visits was the office’s 1st Division Monthly Meeting conducted at the Accreditation Room of the Dr. Victoriano C. Estira Legacy Building, Lingayen, Pangasinan to discuss updates and activities in the different divisions.
Another was the Brigada Opisina 2020 as members of the OVPPQA rolled their sleeves and embraced the cornerstone of 5S (Sort, Set in order, Shine, Standardize and Sustain) in order to optimize work areas and become more productive and efficient in the delivery of services.
Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension
OVPRE team through the leadership of Dr. Paulo V. Cenas works double time as they attempt to strengthen University-Industry partnership and be escalated to better and more advanced operations. Relative to this, a visit was paid to the University of Science and Technology in Hong Kong for an Experiential Learning. Also, as a result of Dr. Cenas’ consultation to DOST-PCAARRD, PSUnians can expect of projects to be implemented in the University.
In effect, Dr. Cenas with Dr. Catalina Platon as the project leader and Dr. Gilbert Moralista as the Head of Special Projects inked Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with DOST_PCAARRD as an external project of the university. This is on the SUSTAIN-IP TBM project which stands for Support to the University’s Strategies in Technology Acceleration Initiatives by Nurturing the Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management.
Aside from DOST-PCAARRD, PSU through Dr. Cenas also works with DOST-PCIEERD which sponsored four faculty members namely Engr. Rex Basuel (Urdaneta), Engr. Rodel Hacla (Urdaneta), Dr. Honelly Mae Cascolan (Asigan) and Dr. Lina Cancino (Lingayen) in their three-month training on Additive Manufacturing Research and on Using 3DPrinters at Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), Balanga, Bataan. This is prelude to DOST-PCIEERD’s intent for an Institutional Development Program Grant on Additive Manufacturing to PSU.
Office of the Vice President for Finance Management
On January 15, 2020, Dr. Maria Corazon Puzon presented the balance from last year and the present budget which will be utilized for priority projects in some of the nine campuses. Dr. Puzon said that the budgeting system remains strong in majority aspects.
